A person who laced treats with sedative and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at the location in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.
She explained his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he managed.
The man engaged in a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings the man had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about the activities, justifiably.
"They decided to investigate in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor stated items including baby oil, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his family member alerted the authorities about his worries.
She explained the defendant continued to play the "sweet game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that stage," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The legal representative stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the police once more.
She explained Ruben then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five youngsters.
